Something a bit different?!

Overview

Able Raiders is one of the programmes run by Advantage! Barrow Raiders Community Foundation, and our sports/fitness work is delivered to all our community.
Able Raiders is particularly suited to adults with learning disabilities but also adults with physical disabilities. It involves the delivery of multi sports activities, and fitness and well being sessions to adults/teenagers. One of our ambitions is to develop a specifically targeted junior Able Raiders to work with younger people, who attend, for instance, specialist education settings.
Many of our activities have a rugby flavour, but our prospectus offers: football; cricket; boccia; new age kurling; target games; boxercise; yoga; walking; modified athletic activities; zumba; chair based exercise.

Participants can attend our sessions, which are currently free, as they are signposted for them by local organisations, such as Cumbria Care, and they are advertised on our social media outlets.
Currently, we are in the process of re-designing our website, which will contain a direct booking link. In the meantime, participants and their carers can register interest and book via the email: advantage@barrowrlfc.com
We have engaged with large numbers of participants through referral from local organisations, such as Cumbria Care.

When we meet:

Thursday mornings 9.30 am with variable times and days for additional sessions. This information can be found out by contacting advantage@barrowrlfc.com. All information is passed to the caring organisations to which our participants belong.

Is there a specific meeting point at the address:

The Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium
Craven Park, Duke Street

Equipment:

We have provided the relevant equipment (and invested in specialist equipment) for face to face sessions and advised providers such as Cumbria Care on the purchase of low cost resources for zoom sessions.
In the future, we will be launching optional sportswear for our 'Able Raiders' which has its own logo to further enhance a sense of identity.

Accessibility Information:

We have no accessibility restrictions as most activities take place at our rugby stadium, which has disabled access and toilet facilities. Indoor activities sometimes take place at a local sports hall, which is also disability friendly, and during Covid, twice weekly sessions have taken place via zoom.
