Craigavon Boccia Club are the first club of 2024 to win the title of Every Body Moves powered by Toyota Club of the Month! Congratulations to all involved, read on to hear more about one of the most inclusive, tactical and accessible sports around and what a deserving club they are.
Craigavon which is situated just to the Southwest of the Northern Ireland capital Belfast has really seen Boccia take off. Due in no small part to their amazing group of dedicated volunteers and the outstanding support of Disability Sport NI.
The club sees weekly sessions open to everyone with a variety of disabilities and as Donna and Daniel two playing members said; “There’s not a lot of things we can take part in together, but with Boccia we’re on an even keel. The competitive element definitely comes out. With the banter ‘craic’ always being great!’
It’s clear to see that the social elements of joining a Boccia club shine through. With people taking part for the pure joy of playing, all the way up to being able to compete against other players from other clubs.
Craigavon Boccia Club shows a truly inclusive and welcoming approach to their offer which sees their members keep on coming back for more.
Colleen Connolly - Inclusive sport and leisure officer at DSNI Said “The plan was to make sport more inclusive across the borough, so one of the first things we did was establish a Boccia club as it’s one of the most inclusive sports.”
Individuals, family members as well as day centres and support groups are all welcome to get involved in Boccia in Craigavon. Colleen went onto say “The social element and catch ups over a cuppa tea are as important if not more so than the playing. We’re small in numbers but big in impact, so it really is lovely for everyone involved to be acknowledged with this award.”
Scott Cromie another playing member is in it for the competition and said, “Boccia allows me to bring out my competitive side and lets me be the sportsman I always wanted to be.”
The evidence is clear, Boccia at Craigavon Boccia club is a winner and so are it’s members. Congratulations on your award for Every Body Moves - Club of the Month for January 2024.
