About Sitting Volleyball

One of the fastest growing Paralympic sports in Great Britain, sitting volleyball is considerably faster than the standing game. The lower net and the small court mean players require quick reactions, agility and power.

Sitting volleyball is a fast and exciting team sport, played sitting on the floor by men and women of all ages and players with and without a disability. In Great Britain there is a thriving domestic grand prix series with teams from England and Wales competing regularly against each other.

Teams are made up of six players and each team is allowed three touches of the ball before it has to pass over the net. Players can use any part of their body to play the ball although the hands and arms usually offer more control. Players shuffle and slide around on the floor in the fastest way possible but when playing the ball a part of the body between a player’s buttocks and shoulders must be in contact with the ground.
