Skills

Developing new skills is a great way to open up more opportunities into the world of sport. By gaining new skills, or improving existing skills, you give yourself a way to not only support sport but also look to build a future for yourself.

Parasport has been working with SkillsActive to give you high quality information on skills development.

SkillsActive’s role is to ensure that qualifications and training are based on industry needs. They believe that sport, training and qualifications and opportunities should therefore be inclusive and accessible by everyone, including all disability groups.

SkillsActive work with training providers and sporting organisations such as Parasport, the English Federation of Disability Sport and Wheelpower to name a few; to raise the profile of disability sport and promote sporting and training opportunities for all disabled people across the UK.

As well as raising the profile of Disability sport. We need to ensure that people employed in sport are trained to work with all disability groups.

How do we do this?

By promoting the value of work based learning pathways such as Apprenticeships and encouraging all opportunities of work experience and volunteering, we ensure that people gaining employment in the sport and leisure industry will have the necessary qualifications and training to meet the needs of the industry. We want to create a skills legacy leading up to and long after the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. This legacy must be inclusive of everyone and positively affect all groups in society.
