History of Goalball
Goalball was invented in Europe in 1946 by Austrian Hanz Lorenzen and German Sepp Reindle as a form of rehabilitation for veterans blinded during the Second World War.
At the 1976 Paralympic Games the sport was introduced as an exhibition event before gaining full medal status at the 1980 Games in Arnhem.
Since then Goalball has increased enormously in popularity and is now played competitively in 112 countries across the world.
