Bernie, who competes in the shot and discus, has been doing athletics for 11 years. His major achievements include a gold in the shot from the 2005 CP World Games and golds in the shot and discus at the 2006 National CP Athletics Championships. He was part of the GB squad at the 2006 IPC Athletics World Championships.

Q How did you get into your sport?
A
Eleven years ago in a club called the Challenge Disability Sports Club

Q What do you enjoy most about it?
A The training mainly, I enjoy the training more than the competition really.

Q What does a typical day in your sport involve?
A
Coming home from Uni and going to the gym for probably an hour and half to 2 hours.

Q How do you relax when you are not training or competing?
A
I have got a season ticket for Liverpool so I go to the match.

Q What do you hope to achieve in your sport in the future?
A
Go to Beijing and hopefully get a medal.

Q What advice would you give to someone wanting to take up your sport?
A
Enjoy the sport mainly to start off with, and just do your best really.
